About Dr. Rasa Lila

Dr. Lila grew up with natural medicine including nutrition, herbs, homeopathy, and chiropractic. She experienced its effectiveness from an early age and also realized how little the general public knew of it. She made a commitment to increase public awareness of the value of natural medicine through individuals’ experiences of it. As a practitioner of natural medicine, she could teach people about their bodies and the miracle of healing Nature bestows.
Education & Experience
She attended the Colorado College to receive her BA in biology. There she studied abroad in Costa Rica. Her tropical field research project was on a medicinal plant used by the indigenous people to treat venomous snake bites. She learned it was not as important how the plant was used as was the healer and ceremony. This sparked her curiosity beyond the science of medicine to the Spirit of medicine.
After college, she attended the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, an accredited, four-year medical program. She obtained a foundation in the medical sciences as well as training in a broad spectrum of natural therapeutics. She got significant clinical experience under licensed physicians in order to diagnose and treat complicated diseases. Dr. Lila also utilized opportunities for self-development and extra-curricular knowledge. As she healed herself she would become a more effective guide for others to heal themselves. She discovered yoga, martial arts, practiced paragliding, hiking, meditation and reiki. She also went through a 12-step recovery program, studied Peruvian shamanism, Native American traditional healing and Spiritualism.
After earning her degree as a naturopathic physician (ND), Dr. Lila returned to her hometown of Albuquerque, NM to begin a practice. She helped develop an affordable, integrative, community-based clinic in her neighborhood called Topahkal. She worked with a socially conscious medical doctor, nurse practitioner, and various traditional Mexica healers from the community. They serve primarily uninsured, underserved, Spanish-speaking patients with quality, family medicine. Dr. Lila also worked in an addiction counseling office and participated in traditional Lakota sweat lodge ceremonies. She also apprenticed in rolfing/structural integration/myofacial therapy.
Dr. Lila began to travel more with her husband, David Prentice, who teaches paragliding around the world, competes, and chases the world distance record. She enjoyed the outdoors, physical activity and culture she experienced with him. She decided to incorporate these things and spiritual medicine into her practice. She now conducts healing retreats in Mexico and other beautiful places.
In April of 2008, Dr. Lila gave birth to a son she named Sky. She continued to practice, bringing her baby to the office when she could and utilizing childcare when she couldn't. She learned a lot about the trials of motherhood while gaining skills in pediatrics. The baby grounded her in many ways. She decided to travel less, and work on her practice more. She does house calls in Albuquerque which are convenient when children get sick. She primarily works in women's health, fertility, detoxification, and allergies. She loves her work changing people's lives.
